With the new school term well under way our cycle team are already out delivering to schools across Hull through training programmes such as Pedestrian Skills and Bikeability.
First Step Cycle has delivered Bikeability on behalf of Hull Road Safety for the last four years and have partnered up again to roll out the scheme to the children and young people in Hull primary and secondary schools, free of charge.
Thanks to this training over 1,200 children this year will receive the road safety knowledge and biking skills they need to ride safely on Hull’s streets and beyond. Even better than just knowledge, every child that completes Bikeability Level 1 & 2 training will also receive a free cycle helmet and accessories thanks to Hull City Council.
In addition to the Free cycle helmet, schools also qualify for a Free ‘Transition to Secondary’ lesson when they take the Bikeability training with Hull Road Safety, though the Pedestrian Skills course can be taken as a stand-alone. Again, this is also Free to Schools!
All 4 of these training programmes are now being offered to all Hull City Council schools completely free of charge to the school and pupils, thanks to the Department of Transport’s funding which is managed by the Road Safety Hull team.
“Hull Safeguarding Children Accident Panel view such training an important first step in personal and road safety and fully support the programme”
