Bike Lights for Dark Nights – Partnering together for Children’s Cycling Safety

This winter, Hull is proudly bringing back the Bike Lights for Dark Nights initiative for the fourth year running, and this time, we’re shining an extra light on keeping our young cyclists safe as they travel to and from school.

Over the past few years, the scheme has been a tremendous success, providing nearly 1,200 sets of bike lights and 900 hi-vis rucksack covers to help cyclists stay visible on our roads. Now, we’re taking that same momentum into Hull’s primary schools.

With First Step Cycle delivering the Bikeability programme on behalf of the council, around 800 Year 6 pupils will receive free bike lights and hi-vis rucksack covers as part of their training. It’s a natural next step to help our young riders stay safe and build strong road safety habits from the very beginning.

A huge thank you to our schools, partners, Hull City Council, Safer Roads Humber, the Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner, and everyone involved in making this happen.

Let’s keep making Hull’s roads safer for everyone — especially our children.

Stay Safe. Stay Seen.
